Nikon has bought a pot of gold paint and started slapping it around at the D60 factory. The result, as you see above, is a rather tacky looking "special'" edition called the Nikon D60 Black Gold. Is this a gift to the taste-deficient DSLR buyer? No. Nikon expects you to pay an extra $50 for this shiny golden coating, which earns the camera a place in our much coveted "Bling" category.
What exactly do you get for that $50? Dan Man, from the DP Review forums, gives us the details:
1) the box: now has three "black gold edition" labels on it. They are not stickers, they are printed onto the actual box.
2) the neck strap: now has an additional "gold edition" logo on it
3&4) the two strap lugs: now plated with a very shiny golden coating
5) the shutter button: now coated with a soft gold color
6) the mode dial: now gas gold colored icons, not white
7) the D60 badge: now a soft colored gold
I really wanted to embed the theme song from the Beverly Hillbillies in this post, but sadly it is still in copyright. Instead, I will point you to the Wkipedia page featuring the banjo-tastic Ballad of Jed Clampett. Keep listening for a mention of Nikon's tacky new camera. $650.
