MobiBlu T20 Portable Media Player

Story posted on: September 28, 2008

MobiBlu T20 Portable Media Player

It has been a while since the MobiBlu brand name has cropped up, and this time round we have the T20 portable media player (PMP) that comes with a round tactile navigation controller to help you go through your list of media files while you're on the go. This is no Apple Click Wheel, but it is functional to say the least. Features of the MobiBlu T20 include :-

  • 2.4" WQVGA display
  • RM/RMVB, AVI, MP3, WMA, FLAC, AAC, APE, JPG, BMP and TXT file formats supported
  • 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities
No point gunning for the smaller capacity models as the 8GB T20 will retail for a mere 140 Euros, making the rest absolutely not worth it.

I-MU Vibro Speaker Turns Surfaces Into Speakers

I-MU Vibro Speaker Turns Surfaces Into Speakers

The I-MU Vibro Speaker has some pretty rock solid claims, promising to turn just about any hard, flat surface into external speakers for your iPod or compatible audio players thanks to its ‘patented super-energy crystals’. Super energy crystals, eh? Well, I sure as heck would hate working on a 'loud' desk, and will all those vibrations cause harm to my precious hard drive in the notebook? If you're interested in giving one a shot, don't hesitate to part with £29.99 for it.

Eco Media Revolution: Wind-up Portable Media Player / FM Radio

If you go on a camping trip, or worse, if a natural disaster struck, the last thing that you would want is to be stuck with one of these lame wind-up FM-radio-only device, right? With the Eco Media Player Revolution, you can throw a party with real music, thanks to its 4GB of storage - although you might have a speaker issue... err, forget it. That's not all, it can also be used to provide juice to your cellphone and that can be a lifesaver (if the network still works, anyways). The bad news: it costs $241. Yup, crazy.

Semicircle Headphones Do Not Isolate You

Semicircle Headphones Do Not Isolate You

While there are many headphones and earbuds out there that claim to be great at filtering noise out from your surroundings, they aren't suitable for those who love cycling or jogging outdoors since it is essential to hear what's going on around you just in case somebody honks you, giving you enough time to get out of harm's way. That's what the Semicircle headphones claim to do - specially designed earbuds that fit in your ear without blocking background noise at all. This wireless unit comes with a Bluetooth module that can be connected to a standard headphone jack. The concept is a brainchild of designer Seohyun Baek, but I guess we won't see this unit hit production anytime soon.

Akai K11 Portable Media Player

Akai K11 Portable Media Player

Akai rolls out its latest portable media player (PMP) under the K11 label, but the specifications are somewhat disappointing considering the various PMPs we have floating around that do much, much more in a sleeker package. Nevertheless, the K11 does have a 1.3 megapixel camera, but don't expect it to perform as good as a dedicated 1.3 megapixel camera available back in the early 21st century. Features include :-

  • 3" LCD display at 400 x 240 resolution
  • Supports AVI, RM, RMVB file formats
  • Compatible with MP3, WMA, AAC, APE, FLAC and PlayFX formats
No idea on pricing, but you can tell by the specifications so far that this is certainly a China-born PMP. Hopefully the paint doesn't cause any kind of poisoning...

Monster Beats by Dr. Dre, the definitive review

Monster Beats by Dr. Dre, the definitive review

By guest editor Karsten Lemm

It's not hard to design headphones that win raves from bloggers and customers. Just give people a big, fat bassline and you can expect to be showered with praise for "phenomenal" beats, "exceptional sound quality", and "blissful, skull-vibrating pure bass". It's a much trickier proposition, though, to design headphones that give you all of the above, deservedly winning plaudits for the booming basement - while sounding just as good in every other department: Rocking the house and stomping the beats one moment, bringing out the best in fragile folk and spine-tingling sonatas the next, that's the real trick that few headphones manage to perform.

Producer Dr. Dre either felt the same way or was persuaded by a sufficiently sweet pay package to lend his name to a new contender in the high-end headphones category. "Beats by Dr. Dre" are made by premium audio brand Monster, which has so far specialized in offering oversized cables for hi-fi enthusiasts - making people believe, some critics say, that the sound must be better simply because the cables are bigger and every inch or centimeter of cord costs a relative fortune.

Nova Slider X 600 Gaming Mouse

Gaming peripherals for the computer, especially mice are often limited to the domain of a few companies like Razer, Logitech and even Microsoft. Nova has a new gaming mouse that wants to challenge the established echelon with their Slider X 600 which relies on claimed indestructible adamantium - I kid, ceramic mouse feet with a maximum sensitivity of 3,200 dpi. In an unconventional move, Nova has moved the mouse cable to come out from its side instead of the front, making me wonder what the logic behind that is. Will the cord get in your way during those frantic gaming moments? Forking out $99.99 to find out is a definite no-no for me. Other features are three mouse profiles, eight programmable buttons and five color options for the lighting.

Alps Parades Minute Capacitance Sensing Technology

Alps Parades Minute Capacitance Sensing Technology

Alps Electric Co. Ltd. has displayed their very own "minute capacitance sensing technology" which makes providence to sense the electric capacity of a hand or fingers moving approximately 3cm above the sensors, and in a demonstration Alps Electric showcased a hand moving right above the touchpad of a notebook, and the cursor on the display moved in tandem as well. In a movie application, it was possible to select the movie you want to watch simply by moving your hand from side to side, while fast forwarding or rewinding required one to rotate a hand in the right direction (clockwise or anti-clockwise). I can't wait for this technology to be commercialized ASAP - at least I don't have to wipe my fingers each time before I type when enjoying a glazed doughnut from Dunkin' Donuts.

Heck, no point thinking about that when the current iPhone 3G won't even venture beyond 16GB. Users will be able to glean read and write speeds of 120MB/s and 80MB/s, respectively with this new 256MB SSD. Measuring a mere 3mm in thickness, it connects to your computer via a 3Gbps SATA connection.

The 3-cell battery might need some looking into though - you won't get very far with that. No idea on pricing or availability though.

They're asking for €19.95 per netbook, and will be able to personalize your MSI Wind or Eee PC 700/900 series in a flash. Not only do these skins look good, they're also meant to offer a little bit of protection (against minor scratches and knocks, but definitely won't do anything for falls). Just for your information, Skinzi extends their services to cover notebooks, MacBooks, iPods and iPhones as well.

Hence, the collaboration with fashion designer Vivienne Tam to spruce up the line of HP notebooks by coming up with a special edition notebook positioned to become the ultimate tech accessory for fashionistas around the globe. There is practically no information concerning the finer details of the HP Vivienne Tam Special Edition notebook, but it will hit the market sometime next year. Something tells me the floral prints on this notebook ain't going to sit pretty with the boys, but high-powered lady executives will probably clamor for one.

Garmin Blings Up Nuvi Range

If you think that your wife needs a GPS navigation system since she doesn't seem to be able to decipher a road map, then why not consider the new Nuvi range from Garmin? The GPS company has come up with blinged out versions of the Nuvi 250 and Nuvi 760, and each model is studded with faux diamonds and glitter. Good thing there is a wide range of colors to choose from, so you might actually find something that you like as part of your secret fetish. For the artistically inclined, I'd suggest getting your own Nuvi and blinging it out yourself with a bunch of separate Swarovski crystals.

Goldstriker is back again, and this time round they have brought their Midas touch over to the Bang & Olufsen Beo 4 remote control. There are currently 200 of these available, retailing somewhere in the vicinity of $1,000 each. Other than the added touch of luxury we call gold, everything else about the Beo 4 stays the same. Pretty much a waste of money IMHO, as that dough could be better spent elsewhere but I suppose if you're on Forbes' list, you'd probably have done your fair share of charity to justify pampering yourself with such an excess once in a while.

These new colors are tipped to roam around Asia and Europe only, with no further details on a North American release. Bummer.

Both models are designed in the same Stockinger manner, specially created to be impenetrable, courtesy of many security mechanisms including integrated alarms and GPS trackers. The Continental safe leans more towards storing jewelry while the Arnage safe is meant to safeguard your watches, boasting watch winders within as well. Both models will come in standard Bentley colors, 10 interior leather hids and 3 wood veneer panels. There will only be 200 of each, so you can imagine the mad scramble among the rich and famous for one of these.

Pretec i-Disk Vogue USB Flash Drive

There are people who prefer to be practical and do away with the aesthetics of a device, but on the other hand, other folks prefer a little bit of extra bling-bling to go along with their gizmos. I suppose the latter group would prefer to kill two birds with one stone, and the Pretec i-Disk Vogue USB flash drive is one such device. This USB drive comes with painted gold and some cheap crystals to make it look like a necklace, and it looks more tacky rather than classy. The 1GB of storage space inside doesn't win any brownie points with me either as that's just too skimpy by today's standards. You can pick one up for $29.99 if you've run out of accessories to go along with that little black number.

Ion Drum Rocker Announced

Ion Drum Rocker Announced

Ion will be releasing its Drum Rocker premium drum set for the Rock Band 2 video game pretty soon, and this drum set is 100% adjustable and configurable, enabling users to modify the settings of each drum and cymbal in addition to having the ability to add more accessories. You can even throw in a drum module from third parties so that the gaming controller is transformed into a professional standalone electronic drum set. Interestingly enough, both drum and cymbal pads are velocity sensitive, so hitting them harder will correspond with the volume levels in the game itself. Hopefully they are constructed in a durable manner since we know just how hard some folks can whack those drums. The Drum Rocker set will retail for $300, and is backwards compatible with the original Rock Band and Guitar Hero: World Tour titles.

DJ Hero Set To Rock

DJ Hero Set To Rock

Great, from Guitar Hero to DJ Hero. Folks who love rhythm-based games will definitely find DJ Hero to be a new challenge, and at least (at first glance) the DJ turntable seems to be much easier to handle compared to a faux guitar. This game will definitely cost much more than the average video game title since you require a laptop turntable peripheral to play in the first place, although one might be able to recycle their Guitar Hero guitars in versus mode face-offs if the developer crams that feature in. The controller has already undergone nearly six iterations since the game's development a couple of years ago, and what you see above is not a picture of a controller but for your reference only.

Nintendo has yet another variant of its popular DS Lite handheld console, and this time round it is the Pink Ribbon model. Basically, this is a polar white console with a pink ribbon logo superimposed on the front cover, lending itself to the breast cancer awareness and research causes. Each purchase will see Nintendo part with $5 for the cancer charity Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and the Big N has already promised a guaranteed minimum donation of $100,000. That roughly equals to 20,000 Pink Ribbon DS Lites - not too challenging an amount considering an average of 50,000 DS Lites are sold in Japan alone each week.

I remember back in the days when I was still a wee lad who's wet behind my ears, I used to have rubber band fights with the rest of the gang during class. Those were fun days - at least not until my mates and I were hauled up to the principal's office, only to receive a hiding from my old man back at home. If only I had the Metal Rubber Band Gun back then - nobody would want to go up against me (or my team), as this stainless steel projectile shooter is able to store up to 12 rubber bands at once, with an infrared sight and light sight to help you aim better.
